There are so many wonderful aspects of Travelers that I genuinely do not know where to start. That alone proves my point with this blog. I know I want to start with the people, but who? Literally every single department or team I have spoken to, since returning, has been stellar. How can I start with any one of them?
Take today for example. I was in two delicate conversations. One was with HR and the other with our product owners. Both were similar in that I’m the new guy critiquing and asking questions of existing processes. Granted, in my current role that’s part of my job, however both were still quite delicate. The product owners are respected seasoned employees who have processes that work for them. The other was HR and… well… it’s HR… otherwise known as THE department who has to tackle never-ending BS (my opinion).
In both situations the other side could have come back with “that’s just how it’s done” and ended the conversation. Or maybe, “you’ll understand in time.” That’s another favorite I’ve heard over the years. This is how countless other organizations would have handled it. However, this is Travelers. That would never happen here. Although there were totally different people involved, the result was the same. The person on the other end was more than willing to explain the backstory and offer to discuss alternatives and listen to suggestions.
I guess to summarize, the people that make up Travelers are constantly evolving. In every situation I can think of, they’ve always been open to conversation and never dismissive. This creates such a wholesome and welcoming environment that it’s almost hard to describe. In a way, it feels like you’re with family regardless of who you’re talking to… even HR.
