Seems like many people are asking how to prevent Windows 10 from rebooting automatically during updates. I believe the following steps should work:
1. Disable the Reboot Task
From within Task Scheduler, find the Reboot task and disable it. This task is located at:
Task Scheduler Library \ Microsoft \ Windows \ UpdateOrchestrator
2. Remove the Reboot Task Definition File
The definition for the task above is located within a file. Delete it or change the name. It is located here:
So, I know it was me that did it, I change the name to:
C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\z - Reboot
Rebootfile does not have an extension.
3. Prevent Recreation of the Reboot Task Definition File
Create a folder in the path above. So, instead of a file called
Reboot you should now have a folder with this name. This will [hopefully] trick Windows into thinking the file still exists so it will not create it again.
4. Le'me know
Please let me know if this works for you. Many people think they have figured out how to prevent this. I'm still not 100% certain this method works.
